  • Road Trip!!

The girls have just left from our Ladies Bible Study and now I’m frantically packing in anticipation for my upcoming road trip.  Of course I must take 5 minutes to update you all since I won’t be online for about a week.  My friend Christine is in France right now and decided to take a hop over to Romania to visit me for a week   Yea I’m so happy.  A much needed rest.  Or at least I’m hoping it’ll be restful.  So the plan is this, she will fly into Bucharest and fly out of Budapest.  Hence you are thinking these are the same place, my friends get a map    Budapest is in Hungary (different country)  This will allow us to drive cross country from East to West and see many castles, monestaries, countryside, mountains and more…  I will report back on our adventures together however cannot do so until I return home.  For security reasons I decided not to bring my computer along with me.  Now for an email junkie, this is a huge deal.

I’m a bit nervous about what to expect.  I’ve done cross country road trips in Romania before a few times now, but never alone.  In the morning I will leave early in order to make the 10 or so hour drive into Bucharest before night.  I have map in hand but absolutely no way to know road conditions, construction or anything.  My Romanian friend laughed when I asked if there was a website to find out this type of information.  Her response:  “this is not America!”.  Driving cross country is very adventuresome and never boring.  Always watching out and swerving to avoid potholes, horse drawn carriages, pigs, cows, chickens, dogs and oncoming cars who think they can pass other cars with an approaching vehicle so close in front of them.

Overall it’s been a good week.  Classes are going well.  We have finished with the text book and pretty much spend our time talking and of course she’s correcting me and reviewing grammatical errors I obviously have forgotten.  Got my hair cut and colored.  Considering I had no translator I managed okay however my color was a bit more reddish than I was expecting but hey I’ll get used to it.

Finally after having my car for a few months I finally gave her a much deserved interior and exterior wash.  I have seen places all over town but didn’t really know what to expect or how it worked.  Finally went to a place (after driving to 5 other places who said they had too many clients) and an hour later got it nice and shiny inside and out – it was a bit spendy but worth it, after several road trips with teams – it was a mess.  Anyways, was a bit disappointed that the next morning there was a layer of dust on top of it.  There is dust and dirt everywhere!!!  I’m so glad that I have 4-wheel drive cause the parking lot in front of my bloc apartment is a mud swamp after a good down pour.  Forget wearing nice clean shoes or having a clean floor.  Oh the joys of fall – however the colored trees make it all worth it – I love fall!!

    Okay back to packing.

  • Ooooh sounds like a fun trip coming up— my only advice is to give yourself extra time. The good news is at least you won’t have to do border crossings anymore– those always concerned me cuz’ back in the day we never knew what the rules were.

Its probably the same in Romania, but if you see oncoming cars flashing lights at you, it means there are police up ahead either pulling over speeders or doing document/safety checks.

There are some great places to eat along the way too– I wish I could remember an awesome place we had lunch at in Budapest– it was a basement tavern across the river not too far from the castle. They had this incredible “wedding present” meal– a pile of tasty stuff mounded up into a small mountain– the wedding present was a hard boiled egg somewhere in the middle. I usually never could get past trying local goulash’s– they were all so tasty and everyone was a little unique. (Yum– it’s lunch time here)

    Have fun!

  • Actually I think the castle was actually a cathedral perhaps across from the Centre. The restaurant was also close to a small shopping mall over there in a triangle building.

  • Hey I just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday!  Take care friend~!

  • It’s Tamara’s Birthday? Happy Birthday Tamara!

I so enjoy visiting your site. My husband is Romanian (I am African American). I love my husbands country and we are both looking forward to visiting or living there one day (I have never been).

I hope to be able to sow good seed into your ministry one day when the Lord supplies.

    Until then, stay encouraged.
